Northumberland County Council sets the standard for
e-Government
The Organisation
The new Unitary Authority of Northumberland
County Council (NCC) is the amalgamation of 7 local councils
consisting of:
Alnwick District Council,
Berwick-upon-Tweed Borough Council, Blyth Valley Borough
Council, Castle Morpeth Borough Council, The former
Northumberland County Council, Tynedale Council , and
Wansbeck District Council.
The new Council came into being on
1st April 2009. The new NCC web site was launched
on 1st April 2009 to coincide with vesting of the new
Authority, despite challenging timescales for the Council officers
and Unified Solutions.
Project Overview
Unified Solutions was chosen due to their
extensive public sector experience, knowledge of the Immediacy WCMS
and their synergy with the Council team.
After the appointment of Unified Solutions,
the council had 12 weeks to plan, develop and implement a new web
site. Consolidation of all information and services from all 7
existing council sites into one main site was needed.
Tim Chalklen comments: “As a result Unified
Solutions are now in a position to utilise similar functionality
for other councils, giving them a better website than they have at
present. Most councils particularly some smaller ones, simply do
not have the resources and cannot spend the time doing the research
that this Unitary council has been able to do to arrive at such a
comprehensive set of requirements.”
Mark Ferguson customer services manager at NCC
comments: “The fact that we built the site to specification, made
it fully transactional, trained 80 content editors and launched on
time and within budget is a testament to the extraordinary
commitment and spirit of co-operation between the Council and
Unified Solutions team”
