Information architecture

The most common complaint about websites is that the navigation is too confusing, it isn't clear where to click. Despite the rise of internet users who will default to using the search box, well designed navigation is the key to a successful user journey and, hence, to a website that delivers the information they wanted to find, or the transaction they wanted to carry out.

As part of the InSite methodology, Unified Solutions uses the proven technique of "card sorting". This approach allows our customers to discard their pre-conceptions of how the content on their site should be structured and enables us to build this up from scratch. Occasionally, this process confirms the ideas on navigation that our customers had all along. More often, they are surprised at the results and delighted at how simple and usable we can make their site.

Along with all of the other work we produce as part of InSite, the results of card sorting are published as an online, clickable site map that helps us validate the user journeys.
